PROHIBIT IT

'PROHIBIT IT' is a photographic publication highlighting public space segregation and 'uselessness'. It aims to uncover the loss of community and connection even in our most populated areas. Uncomplicated in its design, the 'PROHIBIT IT" poster encourages the public to observe their surroundings and the motivations behind urban architecture. It is purposely minimal to stand out against traditional poster design in its environment.

Urban design cultivates this hostile, anti-public atmosphere. Candid photography is in place to emphasise the contentious design decisions which become camouflaged in our environments. This photographic series documents the signals that nearly go unnoticed as we become accustomed to them.

SEGREGATION IN PUBLIC SPACE

The notion of segregation is ever prevalent throughout society's history. We can see how it repeats or replicates itself in any situation. The poster pasted onto the pub window (left image) stimulated this thought of segregation from public space and the hierarchy of groups. This poster reminded me of historic 1980 posters (above) along the same vein seen found across the US & UK.
